Understanding and selecting the right keywords is one of the most critical aspects of ASO (App Store Optimization). Our Keyword Suggestion tools are designed to help you discover high-performing, relevant keywords for your app. This guide walks you through each keyword suggestion feature and how to get the most value from them.
With AppTweak's app keyword suggestion tools or pickers in the Keyword Research section, you can quickly generate a large list of relevant keywords to your app. These tools are available in a panel above the keyword metrics table, which expands by default if your current keyword list is empty.
π‘ All keyword suggestion sections are explained in their respective tooltips. Simply hover over the title to view the explanation.
Adding Keywords
The easiest way to add keywords to your list is by manually typing them into the input bar located above the metrics table. If you already have a list of keywords, you can simply paste them into the input bar, ensuring they are separated by commas or line breaks.
Additionally, AppTweak offers a variety of keyword recommendations based on multiple criteria. Let's dive into the different options:
1. Metadata
In this section, you'll find all the keywords currently included in your app's title, subtitle/short description, and full description. You can view the keywords added to any individual competitor you've added or see keywords for all apps at once by selecting 'All'.
Next to each keyword, you'll also see its volume, and the lists are ordered by descending volume.
Click on any keyword to add it to your list and view all its metrics in the table below. Clicking 'Analyze all keywords' will add all keywords from that section to your list.
2. Top Ranked
In this section, you'll find all the keywords for which your app has ranked at least one day in the past three months. This section is broken down by rank range: Top 1, Top 2-3, Top 4-10, Top 11-30, and Top 31-100.
For example, keywords in 'Top 1' are those for which your app has ranked #1 at least once in the past three months.
By clicking 'Shared', you can view the keywords on which both your app and the selected competitor are ranking. Conversely, 'Opportunity' highlights the keywords that only the selected competitor is ranking for, but your app is not.
Additionally, in the upper right corner of this section, we offer several filtering options:
Filter by terms contained within the displayed keywords
Filter by volume
Filter by rank
Typo filter (enabled by default), which hides misspelled keywords to show only the most relevant ones
3. Top Installs
This section displays up to 50 keywords that AppTweak estimates drive the most organic downloads to your app. These are generally high-volume keywords for which your app ranks well. You can also see your competitors' top keywords.
Similar to the previous section, the 'Shared' tab displays the top keywords your app has in common with the selected competitor. Conversely, the 'Opportunity' tab highlights keywords that are driving downloads to the selected competitor, but not to your app.
In this case, the keywords are ordered by descending number of installs.
In the upper right corner of this section, you can filter the keywords displayed by specific terms contained within them or enable/disable the typo filter (enabled by default, as in the previous section).
4. Apple Ads (iOS only)
In this section, you'll find the keywords from the Apple Search Ads campaigns you've been running for this app.
To access this data, you'll first need to connect your console.
5. Store Auto-Complete
In this section, you'll see the auto-suggestions returned by the the App Store or Google Play when a user starts typing characters in the search bar.
AppTweak fetches auto-complete suggestions based on the typed keyword, as well as combinations with different letters of the alphabet (e.g., "keyword + a", "keyword + b" etc.).
These results are fetched live and vary depending on the country and language.
6. AI Generator
If you're just getting started with ASO or have little time to dedicate to it, this feature is perfect for you!
With just one click, Atlas Al will identify thousands of keywords related to your app or similar apps within seconds. These Al-generated keyword suggestions provide a strong foundation for your analysis.
We provide four types of keyword suggestions:
Discovery Keywords β Powered by an advanced Large Language Model and refined by Atlas AI for relevance and potential.
High-Volume Generic Keywords β Popular generic keywords that are relevant to your market.
Branded Keywords β A powerful set of branded keywords that include your brand and your competitors' brands.
High-Relevancy Keywords β Ideal for getting a head start on ASO. These suggestions combine the most relevant generic and branded keywords for your app.
β οΈ This section is only available for countries and languages supported by Atlas AI (over 70). See the full list here.
7. Semantic
In this section, you can enter a single-term keyword, and we'll provide a list of 50 semantically related keywords to your input, specifically in an app store context.
This tool is powered by AppTweak's AI model, Atlas AI, and helps you discover additional keyword opportunities related to your existing keywords.
8. Clusters
In this section, you can enter a single-term keyword, and we'll generate clusters of related keywords.
Drawing inspiration from the vital concept of SEO keyword clustering, our Data Science team has engineered an advanced algorithm that identifies keyword clusters based on closely related terms according to the app stores.
Keyword clusters are a powerful weapon for your ASO, as we highlight the groups of keywords that Apple or Google identifies as closely related to your input. Clusters are a goldmine for finding new keyword opportunities that are potentially less competitive than your seed keywords.
Targeting keywords in related clusters could also help increase your app's relevancy to its top seed keywords, thus improving your keyword rankings in the long term.
Our keyword clusters are powered by Atlas AI, our unique intelligence trained exclusively on App Store and Google Play data. As such, they have been fine-tuned to discern keyword/app relationships specifically in an app store context.
To illustrate this, here is an example of keyword clusters for "run" (which, thanks to Atlas AI, we know is more relevant to mobile games) vs. "running" (which is more relevant to running apps).
9. DNA
An appβs DNA is a precise category that defines its core purpose. Similarly, a game's DNA offers a more granular categorization based on its gameplay.
In this section, you'll find the most relevant keywords associated with a specific AppDNA or GameDNA classification.
Note that we can only generate keywords for an app or game's DNA if the app has been assigned one. For this, the app must either be available in the US or have English metadata. If an App/GameDNA is not available, this picker will be hidden.
10. Category
In this section, you'll find the most popular keywords that top apps in the store-assigned category rank highest for.
Only the categories associated with the selected app will be shown, and you can switch between them using the tabs.
11. Trending (iOS only)
In this section, you'll find the keywords that have experienced the biggest changes in search volume over the last 7, 30, or 90 days.
You can toggle between:
'Best' to see trending keywords with increasing search volume.
'Worst' to see keywords that have lost traffic over the selected time period.
The number next to each keyword represents the difference in search volume from the start of the selected period to today. This can be either positive (upward arrow) or negative (downward arrow).
12. Stories (iOS only)
In this section, you'll find keywords linked to featured stories on the App Store where the selected app was showcased (part of the story).
The displayed keywords are ranked based the last 90 days, and you can toggle between your app and your competitors.
13. Shuffler
With our keyword Shuffler, you can easily create long-tail keyword combinations.
Simply enter up to 5 keywords, click 'Generate combinations', and AppTweak will automatically generate all single-, double-, and triple-word combinations from your selected terms.
For each generated combination, we also fetch the search volume. This may take some time, so the volume will appear once it's available.
Translate Keywords from Any Language
If you're working on your app in a language you're not familiar with, don't miss out on our auto-translate feature.
With just a click in this little button, we'll translate keyword suggestions from any language into English, French, Japanese, Korean, or Chinese (Simplified), depending on the language in which you've set your AppTweak preferences. This will help you better select your keywords and focus on those that make the most sense for your app.
The translations are done by Google Translate and AppTweak will translate the top 50 keywords among the suggestions. Feel free to use the filters to narrow down your suggestions and have them all translated.
