What is a prompt?
By definition, a prompt is a set of instructions you give to an AI to guide its actions and give it more context.
Our default prompt in App Reviews Manager already explains our GPT's main task: responding to app store reviews. As a result, it knows to always be polite, thank users for their feedback, and reply in the correct language. For positive reviews with low ratings, it asks for more details. For feature requests, it simply thanks the reviewer.
Customize AI prompts to reply to reviews
The AI Prompts feature helps you fine-tune replies when using our AI. We originally created a basic prompt for all users, but realized that adding extra instructions would better meet your specific needs.
When creating a prompt, you can add:
Customer support email: If users have specific feedback or issues, you can provide a support email. The AI will include it in its replies when needed.
Instructions: You can specify details like tone or add extra information in the reply. You can also paste a template to guide the AI’s response style.
You can easily leverage this feature by creating very personalized prompts, including (for example):
Username: Personalize responses by addressing the reviewer directly. You could add in the instruction start every reply with "Hi [username]" to ensure the username is acknowledged in every message.
Template imitation: If you have a preferred template or reply tone, copy it into the instruction field. The generated replies will then follow that style, matching the tone, wording, and structure for consistent replies.
Include customer support email: If the review rating is 3 stars or lower, you could instruct the AI to automatically add a sentence directing the user to the customer support email for further help. For example, writing Please reach out to us at [support email] for more assistance.
⚠️ If a prompt is used in a reply automation rule, editing it will immediately change the replies in the ongoing automation.
How to apply your prompts to reply to reviews
In the Reviews section, change the default prompt by selecting the one you've created.
For each new prompt, you can also select the reply type—neutral, short, or formal.
Once this prompt is selected, you only have to click on the AI button to trigger a suggestion:
For bulk reply, keep in mind that if you change the default AI Prompt, your new prompt will also be used to reply to the reviews you have selected.
How to use your prompts for reply automation
You can reuse these prompts in your automation rules. By default we use ours, but you can easily select ones you’ve created.
After selecting a prompt, you can add extra instructions if needed. You can then update the current prompt with the changes or save it as a new prompt in your list.
