Similar to AppDNA, we have launched GameDNA, our unique taxonomy that provides more granular insights into the mobile gaming landscapes.

While the app stores provide around 20 game subcategories each, the GameDNA taxonomy groups games into over 70 new classifications based on gameplay (users' primary playing experience).

GameDNA and its AppTweak features (Enterprise only) provide a more precise look into a game’s core elements, identity, and market, allowing you to uncover more relevant competitor insights, keyword suggestions, and growth opportunities.

⚠️ Even more than apps, games combine a variety of defining elements to increase originality and stand out in a saturated market. As a result, it would be possible to compare games according to many different aspects—mechanics, universe, narrative, graphics, and more—as a game’s DNA encapsulates all of these elements.

We have chosen to launch GameDNA by focusing on one core aspect: gameplay, grouping games according to users' primary playing experience.

You can leverage GameDNA in a number of places across our platform:

Head to the Top Charts and select your GameDNA of interest to visualize the top-performing games for that gameplay. You can explore our entire taxonomy with an interactive chart, or in list form.

As a game's DNA is constant through time (as long as the game's core identity doesn't change), we do not compute ranking "growth" or "top chart history" for GameDNA.

1. Explore GameDNAs with the interactive chart:
Choose one of the DNA Categories to get the Top Charts of the broader category (e.g. "Match" games).

When you have chosen one of the 16 DNA Categories, you can click to open up more specific gameplays. Just hover over a gameplay (e.g. "Match 3") to learn more.

2. Discover gameplays with the list:

You can also open gameplay in list form. With this view, you can easily search for specific gameplay by typing it in the dropdown.

GameDNA Top Charts allow you to easily compare game ratings, app powers, and rankings (in its highest-ranking store category) just below the developer name.

From our Keyword Table, open up Keyword Suggestions and navigate to “Market Keywords” to explore a range of more relevant keyword suggestions to increase your game’s visibility and downloads.

You can also always find a game’s DNA type from the app header, after searching for an applicable game on AppTweak. Just hover over the GameDNA in the app header for more details or click “Explore all GameDNA types” to deep dive into our entire gaming taxonomy.

We’ll also indicate GameDNAs in our competitor suggestions, so you can select more relevant competitors for your market analyses.
