Google Play Console Metric Changes: What They Mean for Your Reporting

Google changed how it measures store listing performance in the Play Console. Here is what changed, how old and new metrics compare, and how to read your AppTweak reporting during the transition.

Since June 27, 2026, AppTweak's Google Play Console integration has been pulling new metrics from Google under the names of the old ones. This means the numbers you see for Store Listing Visitors, Store Listing Acquisitions, and Store Listing Conversion Rate may not match what you saw before that date, even though the labels look the same.

This article explains what changed on Google's side, how the old and new metrics compare, and how to read your reporting during this transition.

  • What changed: Google Play updated its store listing performance reports to focus on user clicks rather than completed installs.

  • Since when: AppTweak has reported the new metric values since June 27, 2026, across Analytics, Reporting Studio, the API, and MCP.

  • Where the old metrics still live: Store Listing Visitors, Store Listing Acquisitions, and Store Listing Conversion Rate remain available directly in the Statistics section of Google Play Console.

Why Are My Numbers Different?

According to Google's official Play Console documentation, from July 2026 Google Play updated store listing performance reports to focus on user intent (clicks) rather than completed outcomes (acquisitions). The primary metrics are now based on unique users who click the Install, Open, or Pre register buttons on a store listing.

AppTweak's Google Play Console integration started pulling these new metrics on June 27, 2026. Because the calculation method changed, values from before and after this date are not directly comparable, even under familiar metric names.

Old vs New Metric Definitions

The table below matches each metric AppTweak historically displayed with the new Google metric it currently pulls, using Google's official definitions where available.

Old metric (AppTweak historical label)

Official Google definition

New metric (currently pulled by AppTweak)

Official Google definition

Store Listing Visitors

The number of users that visited your Store Listing who did not have your app installed on any device

Visitors

The number of users who visited your store listing.

Store Listing Acquisitions

The number of users that visited your Store Listing and installed your app, who did not have your app installed on any device

Unique User Install Clicks

Unique users who initiated an install of your app from your store listing, who did not have it installed on any other devices at the time

Store Listing Conversion Rate

The percentage of store listing visitors who installed your app. This does not include visits or installs from users who already have your app installed on another device.

Click Through Rate (CTR)

The percentage of visitors who clicked on the install button on your store listing.

💡 Install Clicks count any click on the Install button, including taps that trigger an update rather than a first time install, whereas Store Listing Acquisitions only counted completed, first time installs. This can explain part of the gap you may see between the two metrics, alongside returning users and installs blocked by device or region eligibility. Google has not documented this gap directly. This explanation reflects AppTweak's internal investigation and client cases discussed with our team.

Impact on Search Term Data

The same change applies to per search term data, wherever AppTweak shows metrics broken down by keyword, including in Analytics and the live installs view in Keyword Research. Per search term metrics have switched from Store Listing Visitors, Store Listing Acquisitions, and Conversion Rate to Visitors, Install Clicks, and Click Through Rate.

Treat search term comparisons spanning June 27, 2026 with the same caution as country and app level data. The underlying counting method changed mid period, so a jump or drop around that date is likely a measurement change rather than a real shift in performance.

What We Recommend

  • For historical trends (year over year, or June vs July 2026): use Store Listing Visitors and Store Listing Acquisitions directly in the Statistics section of Google Play Console, where the old metrics remain available.

  • For traffic source and search term analysis going forward: use the new metrics as shown in AppTweak. They reflect real, current Play Store user behavior, even though the counting method has changed.

  • Avoid direct period over period comparisons across June 27, 2026, since old and new metrics are not calculated the same way.

Next Steps

This is an industry wide change made unilaterally by Google, and it affects every tool that pulls data from Google Play Console, not just AppTweak. Here is how AppTweak is adapting:

  • New metrics, matching breakdown: we will display Visitors, Unique User Install Clicks, and Click Through Rate with the same breakdown structure shown in the console.

  • Old metrics restored: we will pull Store Listing Visitors, Store Listing Acquisitions, and Store Listing Conversion Rate from the new Analytics section of the console, preserving the same breakdown you had before.

This article will be updated once these changes are live.
