Google Play Console recently changed how it measures and organizes store listing performance. This article explains the new metrics Google introduced, and how they compare to the ones you are used to.

  • New metrics: Google now reports Visitors, Unique User Install Clicks, and Click Through Rate (CTR) as the primary store listing performance metrics.

  • Old metrics are still available: Store Listing Visitors, Store Listing Acquisitions, and Store Listing Conversion Rate are still available as legacy metrics. Google moved this data to the Statistics section of Play Console; AppTweak retrieves it from there.

  • One legacy metric is being phased out: Total Acquisitions, covered below.

  • Search term reporting is affected: Keyword-level performance breakdowns from Google Play have also changed, covered below.

What happened to Google Play Console metrics?

According to official Google Play Console documentation, Google Play updated store listing performance reports to focus on user intent (clicks) rather than completed outcomes (acquisitions) since July 2026. The primary metrics are now based on unique users who click the Install, Open, or Pre register buttons on a store listing.

Between June 27, 2026 and this update, AppTweak's Analytics briefly showed the new metric values under the old metric names. This has since been corrected: the old metrics are now retrieved from the Statistics section of Play Console, separately from the new ones.

New Google Play Console metrics for performance reporting

The table below matches each old metric with its closest new equivalent, using Google's official definitions where available.

Old metric

New metric ✅

Official definition

Store Listing Visitors

The number of users that visited your store listing who didn't already have your app installed on any of their devices. A user who visits your store listing multiple times is only counted once per day and per dimension.

Visitors

Although Google has not published a distinct definition for this new metric, AppTweak has observed it behaving as a stricter count than the legacy Store Listing Visitors.

Store Listing Acquisitions

The number of users who visited your store listing and installed your app, who didn't have it installed on any other device at the time. This metric remains available in Statistics and via exports.

Unique User Install Clicks*

The number of unique users who clicked the Install button from your store listing.

Store Listing Conversion Rate

Calculated as Store Listing Acquisitions divided by Store Listing Visitors. This is now a legacy metric.

Click Through Rate (CTR)

The percentage of store listing visitors who clicked on a button (Install, Open, or Pre register). This officially replaces the legacy Conversion Rate metric.

💡 *Install Clicks count any click on the Install button, including taps that trigger an update rather than a first time install. Store Listing Acquisitions only counted completed, first-time installs. This is one potential explanation for gaps you may see between the two metrics (alongside Returning Users and Installs being blocked by device or region eligibility). This explanation reflects AppTweak's internal investigations and client cases discussed with our team.

What changed in Google Play search term data

Keyword-level breakdowns, in Analytics and Keyword Research, have experienced additional changes, separate from the general metric redefinitions above:

For Store Listing Acquisitions, Store Listing Visitors, and Conversion Rate, Google Play now only returns the top 50 keywords globally, rather than by country. Because of this, you may see a drop in some keywords' performance, because they are no longer in your top 50 worldwide.

In AppTweak, charts still show data broken down by country, but the underlying keyword list is based on the global top 50. To see county-specific keyword breakdowns, select a date range prior to August 10, 2026.

Legacy metrics

Total Acquisitions is now a legacy metric. Google Play stopped returning Total Acquisitions data after August 10, 2026. This metric is only be available in AppTweak for accounts connected before this date.

Conclusion

To adapt to recent changes in the Google Play Console, AppTweak now displays new Google metrics (Visitors, Unique User Install Clicks, and Click Through Rate) with the same breakdowns shown in the console.
