Custom metrics allow you to combine different metrics to create a new, custom metric. This feature is particularly useful for combining different data sources (e.g., App Store Connect & Apple Search Ads) or creating metrics like Revenue per Download. Below, we outline several use cases for custom metrics.

How to create a custom metric

  1. Select "Custom Metrics" as your data source and choose "Formula."

  2. Use the labels (A, B, C, etc.) next to the metrics to construct operations.

  3. You can perform addition (+), subtraction (-), division (/), or multiplication (*).

Example 1: Combine App Store Connect & Google Play Console data

For reporting purposes, you might want a single number representing app performance across platforms. For instance, you can sum the Total Downloads from App Store Connect and Store Listing Acquisitions from Google Play Console.

Example 2: Extract organic downloads for iOS

If you have integrated both your App Store Connect and Apple Search Ads consoles, you can use custom metrics to calculate real organic installs for your app. Subtract the metric Installs from Apple Search Ads from the Total Downloads metric from App Store Connect, with a breakdown for Source Type "App Store Search".

πŸ’‘ Tip: Hide the original metrics from App Store Connect and Apple Search Ads to focus on the custom metric.

Example 3: Create a new metric like "Revenue per Download"

Custom metrics also allow you to create metrics not directly available within AppTweak. For example, you can calculate Revenue per Download by dividing Revenue Estimates by Download Estimates (both from ASO Intelligence). The example below compares Revenue per Download for Netflix (in red) versus Paramount+ (in blue).
